Tractor was bought new locally from the John Deere dealer Pikeville Equipment, and regularly serviced. Tractor is all original and not touched up at all. Hood and fenders are not dented or cracked. Original paint still shines like new. Only flaw is spots of the green topcoat of paint on the hood has flaked off over time. Could easily take the hood off, lightly sand it, and respray the entire hood to make it perfect again. I didn't want to do that though and ruin the originality of the machine. This tractor was always stored inside and only used for making hay. Very light use on this machine. Little to no wear on common wear points (drawbar, 3 point balls, tie rod ends). Tires are original, rears have 60% tread left, fronts are getting down but will likely last most users a long time yet. Just an overall excellent condition all original example of a 5400 tractor. This is about as reliable a tractor can get. Very simple to work on, easy to service and minimal electronics. Many of these 5400's are out working today with 10,000 hours plus. 1700 hours is nothing on a tractor that never had a loader on it and never did any heavy work. A new John Deere 5065E would be over 440k setup this way and not nearly as deluxe or as reliable of a machine. This is the first true farm tractor sized tractor Deere makes and was the largest horsepower model in the 5 series at the time. I just cannot say enough good about this tractor. If you're looking for a great hay tractor or a tractor to start farming with this is a great option.
